A late George III mahogany and box strung secretaire bookcase, circa 1800, the swan neck pediment above a pair of astragal glazed doors, fitted secretaire drawer and a pair of cupboards, on square tapering feet.

Provenance Lord BallyEdmond, Belgrave Square.

A typed paper in one of the drawers, suggests this bookcase is attributed to William Moore who was working between 1780 and 1815. Moore worked in London for Mayhew and Ince for several years after leaving school in 1768. Their clients included the Dukes of Beuafort, Bedford and Devonshire. Moore set up on his own in Dublin prior to 1777. One of his more prestigious clients was William Cavendish- Bentinck, 3rd Duke of Portland (who later became Prime Minister)

He specialised in inlaid furniture in the Sheraton style.

Lord BallyEdmond, also known as Dr Edward Haughey, was the founder of Norbrook pharmaceuticals, a Westminster peer and former Irish senetor. He was one of Kenneth Harveys most colourful clients at his shop in Chelsea.
